Va-voom...

My Burda WOF dress is almost finished, and perhaps the close-up shot explains why I like it so much! I'm usually accused of dressing uber-conservatively, which is fair enough, but this one, with it's 50's styling, gives me a little cocktail hour flair.... a more detailes post to come...

Libertine dress in action

I wore my Libertine dress to work today, and got some very pleasing feedback... I like the vintage-y styling, and with the 30's shoes I look like a tea-girl in pre-war London.... always a good look for me!

Hummingbirds...

I'll post on my super fantastic Burda WOF 50s dress shortly... till then...

No great post, but just something really beautiful and inspiring that I saw today.

I was walking Seven up the hill, and stopped at an amazing bit where you can stand at the top of a steep cliff / hillside, and look over the whole of Los Angeles. There was quite at wind, and as I watched the wind shot a tiny, tiny little bird up about 50 feet in the air over me. It hovered for a second, folded it's wings back, and dive bombed down all the way to the distant valley floor. Again and again several teeny tiny hummingbirds did this--letting the wind shoot them up high high into the air, then plummeting down like a rollercoaster. It was obvious they were just revelling in the joy of movement and being alive.

For some reason I found it incredibly moving to see joy and a love of life in such tiny creatures...

That's my thought for the day!

Libertine Dress...

Like every other women in the world I jumped on this one:

Target reduced me to tears, so I ordered it in both size 7 and 9, and will return whatever doesn't fit...

Been a while...

I've been AWOL for the last 6 weeks or so, hopscotching from weddings in Miami and Southampton to a sojurn in a french village with my Mum. Its been lots of fun, but also stressful in that way that travel can be when your life is incredibly unsettled already. In ten days I have to give up my fantastic Laurel Canyon apartment, and find new digs, which kind of sucks. Anyway, while I was in France I managed to pick up Patrones, and a new pattern mag for me, the Italian Modellina. Both are packed with great patterns:

The pants are a great slouchy, perennially good looking shape. I've never tried pants before, but might give these a whirl. The cover pattern in Patrones is fantastic too... a Marni color block dress... the pattern I've photographed is something I would never normally sew, but Tany did a fantastic job with something similar, and has inspired me!

Here, finally, is a finished dress! I started this literally years ago, and in one of my many moves it got packed up and forgotten about. It was from a Vogue pattern that I've since lost, and was inspired by Annabella Lwin in Bow Wow Wow---kind of a early Vivienne Westwood feel. It is silk from Vogue Fabrics in Chicago (since closed down I believe) and has a great piratical feel... I almost wore it to the Cafe Tacuba show at the Hollywood Bowl last night, but figured I would be too cold...

Almost posted a shot of my Burda WOF dress---a 1950s fitted cocktail dress from the Feb issue--- but without the lining you can see my knickers, and that is just TMI!
